The race

It felt like my heart stopped. My mouth fell open and I couldn’t seem to shut it. A cool breeze brushed across my face picking up my hair and smothering my eyes. I quickly push it back into place, but that wasn’t quick enough. By the time I’d brushed it away he had gone, leaving me in the room by myself, lifeless bodies staring back at me. All I could do was run. He could still be in the building. I had to get away. The rough concrete skinned the soles of my feet as I sprinted, like sandpaper against timber. I felt a cool bead of sweat trickle down my cheek as I heard a soft pitter-patter of feet pacing behind me. Just pretend it is an innocent school running race. Nothing to be afraid of, I think to myself.

It felt as if her heart had stopped. Her jaw dropped open, she was unable to shut it. A cool breeze brushed across her face, pulling a chunk of her hair in front of her eyes, blocking her vision. Quickly she pushed it away, but not fast enough. Hair out of her eyes, she looked up to see he was gone, leaving her standing in a room filled with lifeless bodies staring back at her. all she could do now was run. He could still be in the building, she had to get away. The rough concrete skinned her bare feet, like sandpaper against wood as she sprinted desperately. A soft pitter-patter sounded behind her. She knows he’s coming. She wipes her hand across her face. Just pretend it an innocent school race, she thought. Nothing to be afraid of.
